Director-turned-actor Prakash Jha’s award-winning short film Highway Nights is now available to stream on various platforms such as Amazon Prime Video, Tata Sky, Airtel Stream, Apple TV and Google Play.
Directed by Shubham Singh, the short film stars Prakash Jha in the role of a truck driver. “Highway Nights has a very strong message and is a heartwarming story that talks about the abuse of women. The film is about an aging, overworked lorry driver who gives a lift to a young, chatty sex worker (played by Mazel Vyas) one night and how they develop a bond over a small journey of a few hours,” said Jha.
The 20-minute short was in the preselection for Oscars 2023 and released theatrically in Los Angeles. Highway Nights has won 15 awards including the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
Regarding the film’s OTT release, director Shubham Singh said, “OTT platforms empower every filmmaker to transcend beyond the geographical boundaries and give more visibility to the cinema we create.”
The filmmaker also praised Prakash Jha for his contribution and performance in the film. “I will always be grateful to everyone who worked so hard for this film. The ease with which Prakash ji did justice to his character is the soul of this film,” he added.
