Nag Ashwin’s highly-anticipated sci-fi epic Kalki 2898 AD, featuring a star-studded cast including Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan, has emerged as the first Indian film of 2024 to sell over 15 lakh tickets for its opening day in pre-sales.
The gross revenue from the advance bookings stands at Rs 43.2 crore, according to industry data-tracking portal Sacnilk. With a few hours left for the advance bookings to end, Kalki is likely to cross Salaar: Part 1 — Ceasefire’s record of Rs 48 crore gross with 22 lakh tickets sold via advance booking.
In the Telugu language, Kalki has raked in Rs 34.8 crore gross through advance sales. The 2D version alone has generated Rs 19.7 crore gross, while the 3D version has brought in Rs 15.1 crore gross.
The Hindi version of Kalki 2898 AD has garnered nearly Rs 4.7 crore gross through advance booking. The Hindi 2D version has collected over Rs 1.2 crore gross, whereas the Hindi 3D version has accumulated over Rs 3.5 crore gross.
The Tamil version of the Nag Ashwin directorial has raked in Rs 1 crore gross in advance sales. The Malayalam version has generated Rs 23 lakh gross in advance sales, while the Kannada version made Rs 2.6 lakh gross in pre-sales.
Among Indian states, Telangana leads with a collection of Rs 20.65 crore gross from advance bookings, with 2,488 shows at 68% occupancy. Andhra Pradesh follows with Rs 12.23 crore from 2,262 shows at 58% occupancy. Karnataka occupies the third position with a collection of Rs 5.92 crore gross with 1,804 shows at 24% occupancy.
According to Sacnilk, Kalki 2898 AD is projected to earn over Rs 200 crore in worldwide gross collection on Day 1. The sci-fi epic is expected to earn in the range of Rs 120-140 crore gross in India alone. Currently. S.S. Rajamouli’s RRR (2022) and Baahubali 2 (2017) are the only Indian movies which crossed the Rs 200-crore mark on opening day.
