Nag Ashwin’s dystopian sci-fi thriller Kalki 2898 AD has emerged as the biggest opener in the history of Indian cinema, amassing Rs 92 crore nett in India on its first day, according to trade reports.
As per industry data-tracking platform Sacnilk, Kalki 2898 AD earned Rs 61.5 crore nett from the Telugu version, Rs 23.5 crore nett from Hindi version, Rs 4.5 crore nett from Tamil version, Rs 2.2 crore nett from Malayalam version and Rs 0.3 crore nett from the Kannada version.
The film features an ensemble cast of heavyweights like Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Prabhas and Deepika Padukone.
In terms of nett collection in the Hindi version, Kalki 2898 AD has zoomed past Hrithik Roshan-starrer Fighter, which boasted the highest opening day collection (Rs 22.5 crore nett) so far.
The worldwide gross collection for the Prabhas-starrer is Rs 191.5 crore, according to the makers of the film. This makes Kalki 2898 AD the third-largest Indian opener. The top two spots are held by S.S. Rajamouli’s RRR (Rs 223 crore gross) and Baahubali 2 (Rs 217 crore gross).
