Kalki 2898 AD, starring Prabhas and Deepika Padukone, has raked in a whopping Rs 635 crore gross globally within its first five days in theatres, according to the industry data-tracker Sacnilk.
Also starring Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan, the Nag Ashwin directorial had a phenomenal opening weekend, grossing over Rs 550 crore gross worldwide. This was followed by a strong performance on its first Monday, collecting an estimated Rs 84 crore gross globally.
In India, Kalki 2898 AD has minted over Rs 343 crore nett across all languages.
The Telugu version of Kalki 2898 AD has minted Rs 182 crore nett so far in India, followed by the Hindi version, which has contributed Rs 128 crore nett. The Tamil version has fetched Rs 20.3 crore nett, while the Malayalam version fetched Rs 11.2 crore nett. The Kannada version has raked in Rs 2.1 crore nett so far.
Set in 2898 AD, the movie portrays Kasi as the sole survivor in a desolate wasteland. A tyrannical elite led by the god-like Supreme Yaskin (Kamal Haasan) controls this ravaged world. They reside in a massive, upside-down pyramid called the Complex. The plot hinges on the arrival of Kalki, a mysterious figure believed to be the final incarnation of the Hindu god Vishnu, growing in the womb of Sumati (Deepika Padukone), who has Ashwatthama (Amitabh Bachchan) as her protector. Prabhas plays the role of a bounty hunter in the movie.
