Nag Ashwin’s sci-fi epic Kalki 2898 AD crossed the Rs 1,000-crore mark globally on the 16th day of its theatrical run, the makers announced on Saturday.

“1000 CRORES and counting…💥This milestone is a celebration of your love. We poured our hearts into this film, and you embraced it with open hearts. Thank you to the audience across the world ❤️,” the official handle of the film wrote on X alongside a poster of Prabhas as Karna in a scene from the sci-fi epic.

Kalki 2898 AD is the first Indian film in 2024 to join the Rs 1,000-crore club. It is also the seventh Indian film ever to achieve this milestone. Aamir Khan’s Dangal leads the pack with a worldwide collection of Rs 2,024 crore. Prabhas’ Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (Rs 1,810 crore) occupies the second position, while S.S. Rajamouli-helmed RRR (Rs 1,387 crore) is at the third spot.

Yash-starrer K.G.F. Chapter 2 is also on the list at fourth position with a worldwide collection of Rs 1,250 crore. The other two spots are taken by Shah Rukh Khan’s 2023 releases Jawan (Rs 1,148 crore) and Pathaan (Rs 1,050 crore).

According to industry data-tracking portal Sacnilk, Kalki 2898 AD has amassed Rs 549.35 crore nett in India so far. This includes Rs 414.85 crore nett in the first week and an additional Rs 128.5 crore nett in the second week. The dystopian thriller began its third week in theatres with a collection of Rs 6 crore nett on Friday.

Kalki 2898 AD, which also features Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan and Deepika Padukone in key roles, is set in 2898 AD. Kasi is depicted as the last surviving city, ruled by an authoritarian named Supreme Yaskin, revered as a god-king. Rebels fighting against Yaskin are expecting the birth of Kalki, the tenth and final avatar of Lord Vishnu, who will put an end to their sufferings in the film.
