Prabhas and Kriti Sanon-starrer action-adventure film Adipurush, inspired by the epic Ramayana, will release on June 16 this year, the makers of the film have announced.
The film was initially scheduled to release in January 2023 but the makers had to push the release date to improve the VFX. Prabhas will be portraying the role of Lord Ram, Kriti will be seen as Sita while Saif Ali Khan will be slipping into the shoes of Ravan in this retelling of the epic Ramayana.
“The world will witness India’s timeless epic in 150 days! #150DaysToAdipurush #Adipurush releases IN THEATRES on June 16, 2023 in 3D,” Adipurush director Om Raut wrote on Twitter.
The teaser of Adipurush was released amid much fanfare on October 2 last year. However, it received an unexpected backlash from all quarters, mainly for its subpar visual effects. Prabhas’ look as Lord Ram and Saif’s Ravan were also heavily criticised.
The social media backlash forced the makers to postpone the film’s release date from January 2023 to June as they wanted to give a ‘complete visual’ experience to the viewers, and hence needed more time.
“We are committed to making a film that India is proud of. Your support, love and blessings is what keeps us going,” Om Raut had said in a statement while announcing the postponement.
