Prabhas’ latest actioner Salaar: Part 1 — Ceasefire has emerged as the biggest opener of 2023 in India, beating blockbusters like Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal and Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan and Pathaan, according to early estimates calculated by box office data tracking platform Sacnilk a day after the film’s Friday release.
The Prashanth Neel directorial, also starring Prithviraj Sukumaran in an important role, collected Rs 95 crore in India on its opening day, show early estimates. The final figures, announced by the makers, may differ marginally.
Shah Rukh’s Jawan earlier held the record of highest opening, with a Day 1 collection of Rs 75 crore. His Pathaan earned Rs 57 crore on the opening day in India. Both the films breached the Rs 1000-crore mark globally.
However, Shah Rukh’s third release of the year, Dunki, which hit theatres on Thursday, has lagged behind Jawan and Pathaan in Day 1 collection. The Rajkumar Hirani directorial has accumulated a total of Rs 49.20 crore nett at the domestic box office, with a Day 1 collection of Rs 29.20 crore nett and Rs 20 crore nett on Day 2.
Prabhas, who faced disappointment with his previous film Adipurush, plays the titular role in Salaar. The story revolves around two friends-turned-enemies against a political backdrop. Prithviraj takes on the role of Salaar’s friend Varadharaja Mannar in the movie and vies for control over the fictional city of Khansaar.
