How does it feel to be working in TV now as opposed to films or series? How is the process different?

I always wanted to work in television. As long as I’m performing in front of the camera I’m happy and it feels the same as a performer. But the shooting techniques are different. In films, we get ample time for character prep but here things are different, we have to memorise all our lines as soon as we get the scripts. The working process for TV is way more faster and challenging.

Tell us about your character.

I play the character of a vocal and confident lady, working with an NGO and younger sister-in-law of Shimul. My character’s name is Kajari and she is the support system of Shimul. She is the strongest female character in the close-knit joint family to which Shimul belongs.

What was your reaction when you first heard about the show?

I was very optimistic about the show as the story is fresh and relatable. I was excited when I was described my character as it describes more of me in real life. I simply love the storyline. This story talks about female bonding and friendship, women empowerment and upliftment. From an audience perspective, I would love to binge-watch such a show. The USP of the show is the happiness of women in another woman’s success, which is relevant in television today.

How has the shooting experience been so far?

So far so good. I feel content while playing this character, which keeps up the motivation to work. Everybody is cordial on set and I am learning something new every day. I am so grateful to my producers Arka and Debolina Ganguly and team Zee Bangla for giving me the opportunity to perform.

You are shooting wedding scenes now. What is the best part about it?

The best part is to see the Bengali wedding rituals taking place just like in real life. However, we have to wear heavy make-up and jewellery for long hours.

As an actor, what do you think are the qualities that set you apart from the rest?

Every actor is versatile in their own way. And every actor does justice to a specific kind of role. The only thing I believe sets me apart is that I try to be as flexible as possible and try different kinds of characters rather than just playing stereotypes.

With so many actors out there, how tough is the competition?

There’s enough work out there to showcase talent and besides it’s always good to have healthy competition around... and more than competition, it’s become one large family now. So whenever I talk to my contemporary actors it’s always good that we share our experiences and cherish each other’s success.
