Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan: II has breached the Rs 300-crore mark at the global box office on its second weekend, according to trade reports.
Based on the novel series of the same name by Kalki Krishnamurthy, Ponniyin Selvan: II grossed more than Rs 200 crore at the worldwide box office in just four days and collected Rs 257 crore gross worldwide at the end of the first week, highlight records with Box Office India.
PS-II has been performing well in India too. It registered an opening day collection of Rs 27 crore nett at the domestic box office and ended the first week in theatres with a collection of Rs 126 crore nett. The film further collected Rs 5.25 crore nett on Friday, Rs 8.75 crore on Saturday and Rs 10 crore on Sunday, taking its total earnings in India past the Rs 150-crore mark.
Co-produced by Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions, the sequel to Ponniyin Selvan: I features Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Chiyaan Vikram, Karthi, Trisha Krishnan and Jayam Ravi in key roles. Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman has scored the music for PS-II.
