Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan: Part 2 passed its first Monday test with flying colours as the epic period drama managed to gross over Rs 200 crore at the worldwide box office.
Lyca Productions took to Twitter to share the news. “Breaking barriers and conquering the globe! #PS2 soars high and crosses over 200 crores worldwide! #PS2RunningSuccessfully,” the makers wrote.
PS-II, which released in theatres worldwide on April 28, has been performing well at the domestic box office as well. Starting out with an opening-day collection of Rs 27 crore nett, the film added Rs 26 crore nett to its kitty on Saturday, followed by another Rs 27 crore nett on Sunday, according to trade reports. The epic visual drama earned Rs 24 crore nett on Monday, taking its total domestic collection in four days to Rs 105 crore nett.
An adaptation of the novel series of the same name by Kalki Krishnamurthy, PS-II features Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Chiyaan Vikram, Trisha Krishnan, Jayam Ravi and Karthi in key roles. The first instalment in the film series earned over Rs 500 crore worldwide. With good word-of-mouth publicity and no major Indian releases on its heels, Ponniyin Selvan: Part 2 is expected to keep the cash registers ringing in the coming days.
