A thriller. A breezy tale. A dark story. It’s a stream of stories as Platform 8 rolls out a range of new web shows and films. The thriller series The Nandini Murder Case brings actors Satyam Bhattacharya and Debraj Bhattacharya together again after Ballabhpurer Rupkatha. The light-hearted breezy tale Felu Mittir Lane promises old-school flavours and the dark story Nishith Sen follows Indra, a diligent cop whose life gets completely disrupted once he gets transferred to a remote hilly area. A haunting past that once again resurfaces challenges Indra to save his daughter’s life from the clutches of a spiteful opponent until the final ‘do or die’ face-off.

Felu Mitter Lane revolves around the story of a young man named Felu who was initially underestimated for his poor academic skills. Eventually, he becomes the ‘Robin Hood’ in his locality. A series of hilarious events follow as Felu wants to relocate in order to secure his future and faces a lot of obstacles from his friends and neighbours, who do not want to lose their ‘support system’.

While shooting in a hilly village in North Bengal, the famous actor Nandini Chatterjee is killed in The Nandini Murder Case. During the investigation, Nandini’s life story opens up.

“Shooting for The Nandini Murder Case was exciting right from the start because we had chosen an unknown location. In addition, shooting for this web series was more difficult as I have acted in it too besides handling the directorial responsibilities. And it’s always an added excitement to execute a tough job in an easy way,” said director Abhinandan Dutta.

Meanwhile, Platform 8 already boasts a set of original content, consisting of series and original movies. There’s Anando Ashram by Arijit Toton Chakraborty, a series revolving around a young and aspiring filmmaker couple. One of the most popular original movies on the platform, Payesh explores the story of a newly-wed girl Paromita who copes with her new life and overpowering emotions. Directed by Promita Bhattacharya, the movie has Rajnandini Paul, Neil Chatterjee and Senjuti Mukherjee as the leads.

Payesh is the quintessential Bengali sweet dish that marks new beginnings. “Paromita, from south Calcutta, loves the payesh that her mother makes for her birthday every year. She’s a doctor, yet she’s pampered at home like a little child. After she marries the brilliant boy Anindya, it’s her turn to make payesh, on the day of her Bou Bhaat. It incidentally happens to be her birthday too. She misses the pampering at home, as she tries to adapt to the new ways of her new life,” said director Promita Bhattacharya.

Arshi is a romantic series that tells a tale of people fighting with their past and looking for a new beginning in love. It is directed by Sibangshu Bhattacharjee with actors like Shilajit Majumder, Chandreyee Ghosh, Biswanath Basu, and Sanjukta Roy Chowdhury in important roles. There’s another anthology, a paranormal series by Arnab Riingo Banerjee, Seventh, that has seven stories shot in seven different terrains of India.

“In this world full of complexities, Platform 8 focuses on simple and feel-good factors. We rely on family entertainers, keeping literature a priority. It is, therefore, a mixed platter of series, originals, feature films and musically rich content,” said Priyanka Surana Bardia, director, Platform 8.
