Taapsee Pannu’s Rani finds it hard to hit the sweet spot with her husband, played by Vikrant Massey, as her interest is piqued by Abhimanyu (Sunny Kaushal) in the trailer of Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba, the sequel to Vinil Mathew’s 2021 Netflix thriller Haseen Dillruba.

Dropped by the streamer on Thursday, the two-minute-41-second-long trailer begins with clips from the original film, where Rishu had devised a cunning plan, chopping off his own hand to cover up his wife’s murder of her lover Neel (Harshvardhan Rane).

The video then shifts to Rishu and Rani struggling to find a way to stay together forever. “I’ll listen to everything you say, but remember, no third person should intervene,” says Rishu as the clip transitions to scenes of Abhimanyu asking Rani out on a date, gifting her a bouquet and sharing an intimate moment with her.

“Abhimanyu is a good man,” says Rani. “Yes, but you have a questionable character,” retorts Rishu. The tension rapidly escalates in the following scenes, with Rani rushing to a police station, seeking protection and claiming that her husband would kill her.

Novels of thriller writer Dinesh Pandit seem to play a central role even in the sequel. An alligator snapping its jaws inside water while Rani sits on a boat, Rishu’s severed prosthetic arm floating on a river, gunshots, and Jimmy Shergill appearing as a cop and Neel’s uncle towards the end of the video promise an immersive watch.

Taapsee, Vikrant and Sunny had wrapped up the shooting for Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba in December last year.

Backed by Aanand L Rai’s Colour Yellow Productions and Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series Films, the thriller is penned by Kanika Dhillon, who also wrote the screenplay for the original movie.

Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba is slated to hit Netflix on August 9.
