Twelve-year-old demigod Percy Jackson embarks on a quest to restore power to Mount Olympus— the abode of Greek gods— after Zeus accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt in a new teaser of the Disney+ series Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

Dropped on Tuesday by the streamer, the one-minute-33-second long teaser introduces Percy, played by Walker Scobell, as a “troubled kid” who has struggled with achieving good grades and escaping bullies at school all his life. However, he has always had the company of his best friend Grover Underwood (Aryan Simhadri), who later turns out to be a satyr.

“The stories that I have told you, about Greek gods and half-bloods are all real,” says Percy’s mother to her son in the teaser, which gives glimpses of Percy’s training at Camp Half-blood. He and Grover meet Annabeth Chase (Leah Jeffries) at the camp, and the trio soon become best friends.

The teaser concludes with a scene of Percy saving his mother from a Minotaur with his Riptide— a prized sword made of Celestial Bronze, a material that is only effective on gods, demigods, Titans, Giants, and monsters as Vance Joy’s 2013 song Riptide plays in the background.

The teaser promises a faithful adaptation of the Percy Jackson series of novels written by Rick Riordan. The first two episodes have been co-written by the author himself. The Disney+ show is run by Jon Steinberg and Dan Shotz, with James Bobin directing the first two episodes.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians is slated to premiere on December 20 on Disney+.
