Payal Kapadia’s multiple award-winning Malayalam drama All We Imagine as Light has returned to select theatres in Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, Bengaluru and other cities across India, the filmmaker announced on Thursday.
Sharing the news on X on December 12, Payal wrote, “So happppppy with re-release. Thank you everyone.”
The film will also be screened at select theatres in Pune, Goa and Bhubaneshwar with English subtitles.
Starring Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha and Chhaya Kadam, Kapadia's film explores love, longing and loneliness in the bustling city of Mumbai through the perspectives of three women, two Malayali nurses — Prabha (Kani Kusruti) and Anu (Divya Prabha) — and their friend Parvati (Chhaya Kadam).
The film, which made history by becoming the first Indian film ever to win the Grand Prix award at the Cannes Film Festival in May, is distributed by Rana Daggubati's Spirit Media in India and was released in select theatres in Kerala in September. Later, on November 22, it was released in other Indian cities.
All We Imagine as Light has received two nods —best motion picture in a non-English language and best director— at the upcoming 82nd Golden Globe Awards. All We Imagine As Light was recently named the best international film by New York Film Critics Circle Awards and the Gotham Awards.
The Malayalam-Hindi film won the Jury Grand Prize at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA) 2024 as well.
After drawing a full house at Jerusalem Film Festival earlier this year, the film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2024 in September. The 2024 edition of the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival also opened with a full-house screening of filmmaker Payal Kapadia's All We Imagine As Light.
