American singer-songwriter Patti Smith has thanked Taylor Swift for including her name in the song The Tortured Poets Department from her recently released album of the same name.

Sharing monochrome pictures of her reading a book by Welsh poet Dylan Thomas resonating with the aesthetics of Taylor’s album, Smith wrote, “This is saying I was moved to be mentioned in the company of the great Welsh poet Dylan Thomas. Thank you Taylor.”

“I laughed in your face and said, You’re not Dylan Thomas, I’m not Pattie Smith, This ain’t the Chelsea Hotel, We’re modern idiots,” the lyrics of Taylor’s song read.

Apart from Patti Smith and Dylan Thomas, Taylor Swift paid tribute to the Hollywood silent era actress Clara Bow in her song titled Clara Bow. Also, the singer has paid tribute to Robin Williams’ 1988 coming-of-age film Dead Poets Society by reuniting two of its cast members, Ethan Hawke and Josh Charles, in the music video of her song ‘Fortnight’ from the album.

The Tortured Poets Department set a new record on Spotify on Friday by becoming the first album to surpass 300 million streams in a single day. The record has surpassed Beyoncé's album Cowboy Carter which earned 300.41 million on-demand official streams in its first week and topped the Billboard 200 chart.

Also, Taylor’s song Fortnight featuring Post Malone became Spotify’s most-streamed song in a single day.

The Tortured Poets Department is the eleventh album of Taylor Swift. Written and produced by Taylor, Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner, it released on April 19.
