Pathaan
Shah Rukh Khan shared the first look of John Abraham’s character in their upcoming film Pathaan, which also stars Deepika Padukone. In the motion poster, John is battle-ready with a fierce look in his eyes and weapons strapped around his body.
Shah Rukh shared the poster on social media with the caption: “He’s tough and plays it rough! Presenting @TheJohnAbraham in #Pathaan. Celebrate #Pathaan with #YRF50 only at a big screen near you on 25th January, 2023. Releasing in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.”
The much-anticipated action film, set to release on January 25, 2023, is helmed by War director Siddharth Anand and produced by Yash Raj Films. Pathaan will mark Shah Rukh’s return to the big screen after more than five years; he’s rumoured to be playing a spy.
Karnasubarner Guptodhon
The sleuthing trio of Sonada, Abir and Jhinuk are returning to the big screens with their next adventure. Tollywood star Abir Chatterjee, who plays investigator and history professor Sonada, shared the first-look motion poster of Karnasubarner Guptodhon on Instagram.
Karnasubarner Guptodhon is the third instalment in the Guptodhon franchise directed by Dhrubo Banerjee. After Guptodhoner Sondhane in 2018 and Durgeshgorer Guptodhon in 2019 – both films that did well at the box office – the third film follows a similar trajectory of the trio setting out in search of treasure amid ancient ruins.
Karnasubarner Guptodhon will release on September 30.
Empire of Light
Searchlight Pictures dropped the teaser trailer of Academy Award-winning director Sam Mendes’ love letter to cinema — Empire of Light. The film is headlined by Olivia Colman, Toby Jones, Michael Ward and Colin Firth.
The one-minute-13-second trailer beautifully sets light and darkness as the themes of the movie. Set in and around an old cinema hall, Empire, on the South Coast of England in the 1980s, the film tells the story of the people working at the hall.
After Skyfall and 1917, Mendes has once again collaborated with ace cinematographer Roger Deakins on this film. Empire of Light is scheduled to have its world premiere at Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) before its US theatrical release on December 9, followed by the UK release on January 13.
Goodnight Mommy
Amazon Prime Video shared the trailer of the horror film Goodnight Mommy, starring Naomi Watts. A remake of the 2014 Austrian horror classic of the same name, Goodnight Mommy will premiere on Prime Video on September 16.
The two-minute-27-second trailer follows two twin brothers who visit their mother after her recent reconstructive surgery. However, it quickly becomes clear that something isn’t quite right with her. Goodnight Mommy is directed by Matt Sobel, who previously helmed films like Take Me to the River and X to Y.
You’re Nothing Special
Netflix dropped the trailer of the Spanish-language series You’re Nothing Special, the latest teenage comedy from the OTT’s stable. It will stream on Netflix from September 2.
The trailer follows Amaia, a teenager who has to move to her grandmother’s picturesque old village. Upon her arrival, rumours start to spread that she has inherited her grandmother’s magical powers and Amaia suddenly becomes the star of her new school.
Slumberland
The teaser of Slumberland, shared by Netflix, showcases snippets of an epic adventure through a fascinating land of dreams. Featuring Aquaman star Jason Momoa and Marlow Barkley, the film is directed by Francis Lawrence, the man behind The Hunger Games movies.
The one-minute-14-second-long teaser is a mix of vivid fantastical and magical elements. It follows a young girl (Barkley) who discovers a secret map to the dreamworld of Slumberland, with the help of an eccentric outlaw (Momoa), and hopes to be able to see her late father again. Slumberland will arrive on Netflix around the time of Thanksgiving (in November).
Pinoquio
Walt Disney Studios has unveiled a new trailer for their upcoming live-action adaptation of Walt Disney’s 1940 animated film Pinocchio, which was based on Carlo Collodi’s 1883 Italian book The Adventures of Pinocchio.
The new two-minute-seven-second-long trailer gives us a peek into the world of Pinoquio. Tom Hanks plays the puppet-maker Geppetto and Cynthia Erivo is the Blue Fairy. Directed by Academy Award-winner Robert Zemeckis, this is a live-action retelling of the tale of a wooden puppet who embarks on a thrilling adventure to become a real boy. Benjamin Evan Ainsworth plays the titular character in this film.
Pinoquio will hit Disney+ Hotstar on September 8.
