Amar Singh Chamkila actress Parineeti Chopra has shared a fresh behind-the-scenes video featuring Diljit Dosanjh as the eponymous singer from the sets of Imtiaz Ali’s upcoming directorial ahead of its April 12 premiere on Netflix.

The video begins with a shot of Diljit brimming with energy while performing his songs in front of a local gathering with his on-screen wife Amarjot Kaur, played by Parineeti. The camera then pans to a red salwar kameez-clad Parineeti asking the makeup artist to turn her look into a “classy” and “elegant” one. Scenes alternate between Parineeti intently watching Diljit sing on stage, the duo at a beach, and several photoshoots in their traditional outfits from the movie. Set to the track Ishq Mitaye from the film, the video also shows Parineeti in her makeup room, getting ready for her shoot.

Amar Singh Chamkila is a biopic on Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila, the highest record-selling Indian artiste of the 1980s. The singer, who was killed at 27 along with his wife and two members of his band, shot to fame with his song Takue Te Takua and went on to deliver several hits.

In the trailer dropped by the makers recently, the Hass Hass singer brings to life the story of Chamkila’s rise to fame and his eventual demise. It depicts how the singer, often hailed as the ‘Elvis Presley of Punjab’, went from working at a sock-manufacturing company to becoming a widely-known folk singer in Punjab. However, the alleged vulgar lyrics of his songs led to several protests, which ultimately led to his death at a young age.

Produced by Mohit Choudhary, Select Media Holdings LLP, Saregama and Window Seat Films, Amar Singh Chamkila is slated to release on Netflix on April 12. The music for the film has been composed by AR Rahman.
