Amazon Prime Video series Panchayat is reportedly going to get a Tamil adaptation with Thalaivettiyaan Paalayam, a new TVF comedy-drama that will hit the streaming platform on September 20.

“Welcome to Thalaivettiyaan Paalayam! A village where every day brings new twists and turns. Are you ready for the journey?” wrote the streamer on Instagram on Thursday, sharing a poster of the upcoming eight-episode series directed by Naga and written by Balakumaran Murugesan.

The poster, which resembles situations shown in Panchayat, has tickled the fancy of fans, triggering speculation that the new show would be a Tamil adaptation of TVF’s popular Hindi web series. Adding fuel to the fire is the IMDb synopsis, which is quite similar to the plot of Panchayat, saying the new show will follow Sidharth, an urban engineering graduate, who finds himself working as a village panchayat secretary due to limited job opportunities.

Thalaivettiyaan Paalayam stars Abishek Kumar, Chetan Kadambi, Devadarshini, Niyathi, Anand Sami and Paul Raj in key roles.

Panchayat, which has three seasons on Prime Video, follows a similar plot where the protagonist played by Jitendra Kumar finds his dreams of pursuing MBA shattered as he unexpectedly becomes a panchayat secretary in the fictional village of Phulera in Uttar Pradesh. The show also stars Raghubir Yadav, Neena Gupta, Faisal Malik, Sanvikaa and Durgesh Kumar.
