Anjan Dutt and Mamata Shankar play a senior citizen couple, reprising their roles from Mrinal Sen’s 1982 movie Kharij, on the brink of losing their home after the municipal corporation declares it unsafe in the trailer of Kaushik Ganguly’s next film Palan.

The social drama is Ganguly’s tribute to Mrinal Sen and will introduce two new characters — Dutt and Shankar’s son and daughter-in-law — played by Jisshu Sengupta and Paoli Dam. Sreela Majumdar also reprises her role from the original film.

The two-minute-11-second trailer begins with the municipal corporation putting up a notice on Dutt and Shankar’s house, declaring it ‘unfit’ following a woman’s death after being hit by a large concrete chunk that had fallen off the building. With only two days given to vacate the house, pent-up emotions come out in the open, sparking tension among family members and neighbours.

The clip also shows some tender moments between Dutt and Shankar’s characters, who have been together through thick and thin for a long time. The trailer dives into the changing dynamics of family, tracing the crumbling nature of relationships as the future becomes uncertain for the old couple.

Featuring Debapratim Dasgupta and Buddhadeb Bhattacharya in key roles, Palan will hit the theatres on September 22.
