Padatik, Srijit Mukherji’s biopic on legendary filmmaker Mrinal Sen, is slated for a theatrical release on August 15, the director announced on social media on Tuesday.
The film will be facing off against Amar Kaushik-helmed horror comedy Stree 2 featuring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor in lead roles. John Abraham-starrer Vedaa is also slated to release on the same day.
Featuring Bangladeshi actor Chanchal Chowdhury in the role of the famous auteur, Padatik had its world premiere at International Film Festival of Kerala 2023. Mukherji won the best screenplay award for the film at New York Indian Film Festival 2024.
The teaser for Padatik was unveiled on May 14 on the occasion of Mrinal Sen’s 101st birth anniversary. The black-and-white teaser offers a poignant glimpse of the cultural shifts in Bengal following the death of Rabindranath Tagore, setting the stage for an exploration of Mrinal Sen's life and career.
The film promises to chronicle the various phases of Sen's life, from his struggles and triumphs to his profound influence on the world of filmmaking during times of significant political upheaval.
Joining Chowdhury in this biopic are Monami Ghosh, Jeetu Kamal and Korak Samanta, who portray key characters that shaped Sen's journey. The film’s music has been composed by Indraadip Dasgupta.
