The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have commenced their voting process to determine the nominations for the 96th Oscars. The voting process will end at 5pm PT on January 16 and nominations will be announced by the Academy on January 23, it announced in a statement.

“Voting for #Oscars nominations has officially begun. Oscar nominations will be announced on Tuesday, January 23rd,” the Academy posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday.

The final voting for this year’s winners at the Oscars will commence on February 22 at 9am PT, concluding on February 27 at 5 pm PT.

The 96th Oscars will be held at Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on March 10. The Academy, for the second year in a row, has chosen the second Sunday in March for the awards ceremony, marking a return to normalcy after the disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Academy, consisting of nearly 10,000 eligible voting members distributed among 18 branches, maintains a unique system where each branch nominates for its respective category. This means that editors nominate editors, actors recognise actors, and so forth. However, it's noteworthy that four branches currently do not represent specific awards categories. These branches include casting directors, executives, marketing/public relations, and the recently established production and technology.

This year's awards season promises to showcase outstanding achievements in the world of cinema, with Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie vying for top honours.
