Jai Bhim star Suriya, the first-ever Tamil actor to be inducted as a member of the Academy, has cast his vote for Oscars 2023 — an event that will see two Indian documentaries and a song compete in different categories.
The National Award-winning actor shared a screenshot of his voting process on Twitter recently, prompting reactions from fans across India.
The 95th Academy Awards will be held at Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles on Monday, March 13 (IST).
In June, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences invited 397 new distinguished artists and executives — including Suriya, Kajol and Chhello Show maker Nalin Pan— to become members of the Oscar committee in 2022.
According to The Academy, “Membership selection is based on professional qualifications, with an ongoing commitment to representation, inclusion and equity. This year's class of invitees includes 71 Oscar nominees, including 15 winners.”

Oscars 2023 will be an important event for India. The Telugu song Naatu Naatu from S.S. Rajamouli’s epic action film RRR has been nominated for the best original song. The song, composed by M.M. Keeravani, will also be performed live by its singers Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava at the Oscars 2023 ceremony.
Shaunak Sen’s All That Breathes has been nominated in the best documentary feature category, while Kartiki Gonsalves’s The Elephant Whisperers is competing in the best documentary short film category.
Indian actress Deepika Padukone has been named as a presenter at Oscars 2023. She is only the third Indian to become a presenter at the event, after Persis Khambatta and Priyanka Chopra.
The Pathaan actress will be presenting alongside several other notable stars like Samuel Jackson, Zoe Saldana, Dwayne Johnson, Michael B. Jordan and Riz Ahmed.
The 95th Academy Awards will be hosted by popular American television host and comedian Jimmy Kimmel.
