Cillian Murphy, who has been receiving plaudits for his performance in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, would love to play Ken in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie sequel, the actor recently revealed at an interview with the Brazilian entertainment portal Omelete.
When asked if he would be open to starring as Ken in the Barbie sequel, if it is ever made, the Peaky Blinders actor mulled over the prospect for a second before replying in the affirmative. “Would I play Ken in Barbie 2? Sure, yeah. Let’s read the script, let’s have a conversation,” Murphy said.
“I can’t wait to see Barbie. I can’t wait to see the movie. I think it’s great for cinema to get all these great movies happening this summer,” he added.
Both Oppenheimer and Barbie, called Barbenheimer together by fans, released on July 21 to massive fanfare, hitting record-breaking box office numbers around the world.
Based on the Barbie fashion dolls by Mattel, Barbie is a fantasy comedy film starring Margot Robbie as Barbie. Canadian actor Ryan Gosling plays ‘beach Ken’ along with other variants of Kens played by Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Scott Evans, Ncuti Gatwa and John Cena.
Christopher Nolan’s biographical thriller Oppenheimer, headlined by Murphy, chronicles the life of the physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, who was pivotal in developing the first nuclear weapons as part of the Manhattan Project. The film also features Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Josh Hartnett, Casey Affleck, Rami Malek and Kenneth Branagh.
