Oscar-winning director Christopher Nolan’s next film is titled The Odyssey, the makers announced on Tuesday. The film, they said, will release on July 17, 2026.
“Christopher Nolan’s next film ‘The Odyssey’ is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology. The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to IMAX film screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026,” Universal Pictures wrote on X.
Inspired by Homer’s The Odyssey, the ancient Greek epic that follows Odysseus’ challenging journey home after the Trojan War, the film will use advanced IMAX technology that Christopher Nolan has been developing throughout the year.
Written by Nolan, the film will feature an ensemble cast including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway, and Charlize Theron.
The filmmaker is also producing the project with his partner and wife, Emma Thomas, through their Syncopy banner.
Recently, Nolan and Thomas were honoured by King Charles III with a Knighthood and Damehood, respectively, during a ceremony at Buckingham Palace for their exceptional contributions to the film industry over the years.
Nolan also earned his first Academy Awards for his 2023 Oppenheimer, starring Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr, Emily Blunt and Matt Damon.
