Netflix’s One Piece live-action has started filming for its Season 2 in Cape Town, South Africa, the makers announced on Monday, sharing a video of the actors of the web series.
“It’s happening, Nakama! From around the world, our Straw Hats have reunited to begin filming their epic Season 2 adventure! There’s no better place to start this journey than the deck of the Going Merry with @inakigo @mackenyu @emilysteaparty @bookofjacob and @taz_skylar,” they wrote on the official Instagram page of the series alongside a video.
The video begins by showing Iñaki Godoy going to the airport to get to South Africa. The actor, who plays the aspiring pirate king Luffy in the show, surprised fans by asking Siri how to get to South Africa. The subsequent scenes show other actors — Mackenyu, Emily Rudd, Jacob Gibson and Taz Skylar — arriving on the set one by one.
Soon after the announcement by the makers, Iñaki took to his Instagram Stories and posted a selfie from the set of One Piece, wearing his character Luffy’s iconic straw hat.
Mackenyu, who plays Zoro, shared a picture showing the shadow profiles of the lead cast. Fans quipped about his co-star Taz, who plays Sanji, not appearing fully in the picture, hinting at the bittersweet relationship between Zoro and Sanji in the manga written by Eiichiro Oda.
Recently, the cast for the second season of Netflix live-action One Piece was revealed. Netflix has roped in Callum Kerr, Julia Rehwald, Rob Collett and Ty Keoghi, David Dastmalchian, Daniel Lasker, Camrus Johnson and Jazzara Jaslyn.
One Piece Season 2 will begin with the Straw Hat pirates arriving in Rogue Town, leading to their confrontation with the Baroque Works agents. It will also introduce Crocodile and his partner Nico Robin in the Arabasta Arc.
Set in the world of pirates, the story of One Piece follows Monkey D. Luffy, a young boy who sets sail with his wacky crew on a perilous journey across the Grand Line to find the legendary treasure One Piece and become the Pirate King.
The anime adaptation of the manga series, which began in 1997, is currently ongoing with over 1,000 episodes.
