Anime series One Piece has topped the IMDb list of Top 10 highest-rated TV shows in the first half of 2024 based on user ratings, beating popular shows like The Bear, House of the Dragon and The Boys.
Adapted from Eiichiro Oda’s best-selling manga, the Toei Animation series has topped the list with an impressive rating of 9.0 out of 10. One Piece is the only animation series on the Top 10 list, which features a diverse range of shows. Live-action TV series Shogun and animated series X-Men 97 are in the second and third positions, respectively, with 8.7 and 8.9 ratings.
“Among the TV shows with season premieres so far in 2024, these 10 had the highest average IMDb user ratings,” the US-based website wrote alongside the featured list on Instagram.
Emmy-winning comedy series The Bear has been placed fourth, while video game adaptation Fallout and superhero dark comedy The Boys took the fifth and sixth spots, respectively, on the list that also features Game of Thrones spin-off series House of the Dragon, Matthew McConaughey-starrer True Detective, Netflix remake of Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess’s One Day and Theo James’ The Gentlemen.
One Piece recently grabbed the headlines with its recently-released 1112th episode, which went on to become the highest-rated episode of 2024 with a 9.8/10 score. The anime franchise experienced a surge in its fandom with its critically acclaimed Netflix live-action series, which came out last year and went on to become a global hit with 37.8 million views amassed in less than two weeks since its release.
Following the popularity of the live-action series, Netflix is also set to create a remake of the ongoing anime in collaboration with WIT Studio, Fuji Television and Shueisha publishers.
Set in the world of pirates, the story of One Piece follows Monkey D. Luffy, a young boy who sets sail with his wacky crew on a perilous journey across the Grand Line to find the legendary treasure One Piece and become the Pirate King.
