The film will be directed by Fede Alvarez, who is known for horror films like The Girl in the Spider’s Web, Don’t Breathe and the Evil Dead remake. Alvarez will also serve as the screenwriter and producer.

The studio has also reportedly revealed the cast of the film. David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn and Aileen Wu will join the previously announced lead Cailee Spaeny of Mare of Easttown fame.

While the premise for the yet-to-be-titled film has been kept under wraps, the studio did reveal that the film will follow “a group of young people on a distant world, who find themselves in a confrontation with the most terrifying life form in the universe.”

Original Alien helmer, Ridley Scott serves as an executive producer with Michael Pruss on the new project. They will be joined by producers Brent O’Connor, Elizabeth Cantillon and Tom Moran.

The upcoming film will join the prequel series which started with 2012’s Prometheus, followed by Alien: Covenant. The prequel series is the latest iteration and follows the original series which began in 1979 with Alien, followed by Aliens, Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection. The crossover film series began with Alien vs. Predator and then Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem.

The studio is yet to announce the release date of the film.
