Nicole Kidman takes trip down memory lane ahead of receiving AFI Life Achievement Award

The 56-year old actress will be feted with the AFI Life Achievement Award at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on April 27

Ahead of being honoured with the American Film Institute’s Life Achievement Award, Nicole Kidman took to Instagram on Tuesday to reminisce about her journey as an actress by sharing a clip of her 14-year-old self from her debut film Bush Christmas that released in 1983.

Expressing her gratitude for the diverse roles and collaborations she has encountered since then, Kidman wrote, “This 14 year old girl could have never predicted all the talented people she would get to work with and the many different characters she would get to play So excited to celebrate with so many friends and peers on Saturday with the @AmericanFilmInstitute xx.”

The 56-year old actress will be feted with the AFI Life Achievement Award at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on April 27. The star-studded night will be attended by Hollywood celebrities including Meryl Streep, Reese Witherspoon, Naomi Watts and Morgan Freeman. Kidman is the first Australian actress to receive the AFI Life Achievement Award.

Kidman’s career skyrocketed after her breakthrough role in Dead Calm in 1989, followed by Days of Thunder in 1990. She emerged as a prominent figure in Hollywood, delivering memorable performances in Moulin Rouge (2001), The Others (2001) and The Hours (2002), with the latter earning her an Academy Award for best actress.

Throughout her illustrious career, Kidman has garnered five Oscar nominations and two Emmy Awards, in addition to prestigious honours like Australia’s Companion of the Order of Australia and the Silver Bear award at the Berlin Film Festival. Recognised for her contributions to cinema, she was awarded the 70th Anniversary Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 2017.
