Actress-producer Nicole Kidman was honoured with the 49th American Film Institute Life Achievement Award at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Saturday. Here’s a look at the event attended by her husband singer-songwriter Keith Urban, their daughters and other industry heavyweights.
Kidman looked stunning in a floor-sweeping shimmering gold gown. The Special Ops: Lioness actress wore her hair down, opting for soft makeup and minimal accessories to balance the look. Urban appeared nattily dressed in a monochrome suit teamed with thick-soled black oxford shoes.
Kidman was presented with the prestigious award by her Hours co-star Meryl Streep.
Other stars in attendance included Naomi Watts, Cynthia Erivo and Joey King.
Kidman’s Big Little Lies co-star Reese Witherspoon was also present to cheer her on. Witherspoon dazzled in a black slit dress featuring a plunging neckline.
Morgan Freeman recreated Kidman’s iconic ad for AMC theatres to celebrate the actress’s achievement. The parody video shows Freeman walking into an empty movie theater, speaking poetically about the joy of watching Kidman on the silver screen. “Somehow she makes heartbreak feel good in a place like this,” he says, as the screen in the video flashes clips from some of Kidman’s greatest hits like Moulin Rouge and Eyes Wide Shut. “Nicole Kidman...She makes movies better,” Freeman signs off.
Kidman made her Hollywood breakthrough alongside Tom Cruise in 1990's Days Of Thunder, marrying him in the same year. They parted ways in 2001, but her stardom only grew after this. She received her first Oscar nomination for Moulin Rouge in 2001, before going on to win the best actress Oscar for The Hours in 2003. That very year, Kidman was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in recognition of her significant contributions to the film industry.
Kidman recently starred in and served as an executive producer for the drama series Expats. She also voiced Queen Ellsmere in the animated film Spellbound. The actress is set to headline the Netflix series, A Family Affair, slated to premiere on the streamer later this year. She will also star in Mimi Cave’s upcoming thriller Holland, Michigan.
Kidman is all set to star in and produce several other projects including the Netflix series The Perfect Couple and an Australian TV series called The Last Anniversary, The 56-year-old actress will serve as the executive producer for four more television series: Crime Farm, Hope, Pretty Things, and Things I Know To Be True.
In addition to her television work, Kidman will appear in films like Halina Reijn’s Babygirl and Justin Kurzel’s Mice.
