The production for the sixth and final season of Netflix’s martial arts comedy-drama Cobra Kai has begun, the streaming platform announced on Monday via a behind-the-scenes video featuring the cast.

Running for five seasons, Cobra Kai is based on Robert Mark Kamen’s The Karate Kid film series, which starred Ralph Macchio and William Zabka in the 1984 movie.

“A message to the most badass fans out there: We're thrilled to be back in production, filming the biggest, baddest and final season of Cobra Kai! See you in the dojo,” the streamer wrote alongside the video posted on X (formerly Twitter).

The video begins with Macchio and Zabka — who played Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence, respectively, in the original Karate Kid movies — announcing that they have begun filming for the sixth season of Cobra Kai.

Shot by individual cast members during the shoot, the video reveals that Peyton List is heading to Atlanta and Courtney Henggeler is “super pumped” for the new season.

Tanner Buchanan, who plays Johnny’s son Robby Keene in the series, said that they have been working hard on the sets. While Vanessa Rubio said she cannot wait to give her fans the sixth season, Xolo Maridueña, who plays Miguel Diaz, promised that the final season is going to be a “banger”.

Some cast members also shared that the final season is going to be “bittersweet”, while others mentioned that it will be the “biggest, baddest season yet”.

The cast members promise in the video that there will be lots of surprises in the new season.

In a letter addressed to fans, executive producers Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg have recalled their purpose of creating the series. Cobra Kai chronicles the journey of the original Karate Kid Daniel LaRusso (Macchio) from the day he first arrived in the Valley in 1984 to the present day when he continues to train a new generation of rogue heroes through the lessons he received from his sensei, Mr Miyagi. “Because as we all know, Cobra Kai never dies,” the trio signed off.

The sixth and final season of Cobra Kai will return to Netflix later this year.
