Netflix’s upcoming anime adaptation of popular manga series Sakamoto Days will trace the life of a legendary hitman who leaves his profession to lead a life of peace and quiet with his family, reveals a teaser dropped by the streamer on Wednesday.
The teaser follows Taro Sakamoto, the greatest hitman of all time, whose life changes when he falls in love with a convenience store clerk named Aoi. His feelings soon get reciprocated by Aoi, and the couple get married and have children. Completely immersed in his new lifestyle, the hitman opens a mom-and-pop store in a small town and turns into an overweight man.
However, the peace comes at a price as enemies from his past emerge to seek revenge, prompting Sakamoto to team up with his friends to confront a slew of assassins and protect his family.
Adapted from a manga series written and illustrated by Yuto Suzuki, Sakamoto Days is set to stream on Netflix from January 2025.
“I want to express my gratitude to the fans, whose support made all of this possible. I hope you will continue to join me in building up Sakamoto Days! Please enjoy the show,” Suzuki said in a statement.
Masaki Watanabe, who will be directing the anime series, said he aims to capture the manga’s intensity. “When I first had the chance to read Sakamoto Days, I remember how electrifying the powerful action scenes were,” he recalled, adding, “Keeping that feeling at the heart of production, I want to take all the components unique to the screen — movement, color, and sound — to make SAKAMOTO DAYS a dynamic and fast-paced anime, while keeping in mind the humor sprinkled throughout the original.”
Tms Entertainment, the studio known for creating series like Detective Conan, Fruits Basket and Dr Stone, is set to animate Sakamoto Days. While Taku Kishimoto will handle the series composition, Yo Moriyama will be in charge of the character designs.
