Netflix renews Jenna Ortega-starrer Wednesday for Season 2

The first season of Tim Burton’s horror thriller show streamed on November 23 last year

Tim Burton’s hit Netflix series Wednesday will be returning for a second season, the streaming giant announced on January 7.

The Jenna Ortega starrer, inspired by the 1991 horror-comedy The Addams Family, started streaming on November 23. After its release, the series set a new record with 341 million hours of viewing, which steadily went to 1.2 billion hours viewed within its first 28 days.

The eight-episode horror thriller show follows a teenage Wednesday Addams finding her way in Nevermore Academy and gaining psychic abilities along the way.

Apart from the talented 20-year-old Ortega in the lead role, Christina Ricci plays Marilyn Thornhill, Catherine Zeta-Jones appears as Morticia Addams alongside Luis Guzmán as Gomez and Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley.

The other cast members include Gwendoline Christie, Jamie McShane, Percy Hynes White, Hunter Doohan, Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, Naomi J. Ogawa, Moosa Mostafa, Georgie Farmer and Riki Lindhome. Comedian Fred Armisen also makes an appearance as Wednesday’s eccentric Uncle Fester.
