A mini-series based on the life of the late Brazilian Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna will hit Netflix on November 29, the streamer announced on Wednesday.
“It’s the final lap. Senna arrives 29 November, only on Netflix,” the streamer wrote on Instagram alongside a poster showcasing Gabriel Leone in the titular role.
The poster showcases Leone, portraying the role of Senna, standing on the racetrack with the legendary Formula 1 driver’s iconic green-and-yellow helmet in hand ahead of a race.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest in motorsport history, Senna won three World Championships in 1988, 1990 and 1991. His rivalry with Alain Prost is one of the most famous in sports history. He died tragically at the age of 34 after a crash at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix.
“The six-episode series will showcase Senna’s journey of triumphs, disappointments, joys, and sorrows, unveiling his personality and personal relationships. It begins with the start of the three-time Formula 1 champion’s motor racing career, when he moves to England to compete in Formula Ford, and continues to his fatal accident in Imola, Italy, during the San Marino Grand Prix,” reads the official synopsis of the upcoming series.
Besides Leone, the ensemble cast also includes Pâmela Tomé as Senna’s TV star girlfriend, Xuxa; Matt Mella as rival driver Alain Prost; Patrick Kennedy as McLaren team principal Ron Dennis; and Gabriel Louchard as sports announcer Galvão Bueno.
Showrunner Vicente Amorim has directed Senna with Júlia Rezende. While Gustavo Bragança is the head writer of the show, Fabiano Gullane and Caio Gullane serve as producers.
