Netflix has announced 16 original films, including romcoms, murder mysteries, psychological thrillers and sequels of hit movies, that will hit the streaming platform throughout 2023. Take a look.

You People

Helmed by Black-ish creator Kenya Barris, You People features Eddie Murphy, Nia Long, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, David Duchovny, Lauren London and Jonah Hill.

Your Place Or Mine

Directed by Crazy Ex-Girlfriend co-creator and The Devil Wears Prada writer Aline Brosh McKenna, Your Place Or Mine is a house-swap romantic comedy that stars Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher as long-time friends who nurture romantic feelings for each other.

Luther: The Fallen Sun

Idris Elba is coming back as tormented DCI John Luther in this movie adaptation of BBC’s acclaimed series Luther. Helmed by Jamie Payne, the film will also star Andy Serkis as the antagonist David Robey alongside Cynthia Erivo and Dermot Crowley.

Murder Mystery

Netflix’s breakout original film Murder Mystery gets a sequel. Directed by Jeremy Garelick, this whodunnit comedy stars Adam Sandler and Jennifer Anniston in lead roles alongside Mark Strong, Adeel Akhtar and Kuhoo Verma.

The Mother

Jennifer Lopez portrays an assassin in the upcoming action drama The Mother, helmed by Mulan director Niki Caro. The film also stars Joseph Fiennes, Omari Hardwick and Gael García Bernal.

Extraction 2

Chris Hemsworth’s Extraction sequel is on the way. Directed by Sam Hargrave and written by Joe Russo, Extraction 2 will see Hemsworth returning as black ops mercenary Tyler Rake. Golshifteh Farahani and Adam Bessa will also reprise their roles.

They Cloned Tyrone

This upcoming American science fiction comedy mystery film is directed by debutant Juel Taylor. They Cloned Tyrone, adapted from a screenplay by Taylor and Tony Rettenmaier, stars John Boyega, Teyonah Parris, Kiefer Sutherland and Jamie Foxx in lead roles.

Heart of Stone

Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt makes her Hollywood debut in director Tom Harper’s spy action thriller film Heart of Stone. It also stars Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan in lead roles.

Lift

Director F. Gary Gray, who is known for Friday, Set It Off and The Italian Job, is coming back for heist film Lift— this time with a bit of comedy. Kevin Hart leads the upcoming action comedy film alongside Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sam Worthington and Vincent D’Onofrio.

Damsel

After the humongous success of Enola Holmes 2, Millie Bobby Brown is coming back on Netflix with Damsel. This fantasy film, helmed by Esposados director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, also stars Nick Robinson, Angela Bassett, Robin Wright, Ray Winstone, Brooke Carter and Shohreh Aghdashloo.

Pain Hustlers

Chris Evans is coming back on Netflix after 2022’s The Grey Man with the conspiracy drama film Pain Hustlers. Directed by David Yates from a screenplay by Wells Tower, this movie is based on a 2018 New York Times Magazine article — The Pain Hustlers — by Evan Hughes. The film also stars Emily Blunt, Andy Garcia, Catherine O'Hara and Chloe Coleman.

The Killer

David Fincher is coming up with his upcoming American neo-noir action thriller film The Killer in 2023. It is an adaptation of Alexis Nolent’s French graphic novel series of the same name. The film stars Michael Fassbender, Charles Parnell, Arliss Howard, Sophie Charlotte and Tilda Swinton.

A Family Affair

Netflix’s new romantic comedy film A Family Affair stars Joey King, Nicole Kidman and Zac Efron in lead roles. The film is helmed by Richard LaGravenese, who previously directed P.S. I Love You, Freedom Writers and Water for Elephants.

Leo

Netflix unveiled its new animated film Leo from Adam Sandler and his production company Happy Madison. Directed by Robert Smigel, Robert Marianetti and David Wachtenheim, the movie’s voice cast includes Bill Burr, Cecily Strong, Jason Alexander, Rob Schneider, Sadie Sandler, Sunny Sandler, Jackie Sandler and Heidi Gardner.

Leave the World Behind

Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail is helming Netflix’s upcoming psychological thriller film Leave the World Behind. It is based on the 2020 novel of the same name by Rumaan Alam. The movie stars Julia Roberts, Mahershala Ali, Ethan Hawke, Myha'la Herrold, Charlie Evans, Kevin Bacon and Farrah Mackenzie.

Rebel Moon

Director Zack Snyder’s upcoming epic space opera film Rebel Moon will arrive on Netflix at the end of the year. It features an ensemble cast of Sofia Boutella, Charlie Hunnam, Ray Fisher, Djimon Hounsou, Jena Malone, Corey Stoll, Ed Skrein, Cleopatra Coleman, Fra Fee, Cary Elwes and Anthony Hopkins.
