Netflix’s supernatural drama series Dead Boy Detectives has been discontinued by the streamer after its first season, US-based entertainment magazine Variety reported on Saturday.
The first season of Dead Boy Detectives premiered on Netflix on April 25 this year. The series follows the paranormal adventures of two quirky teenage ghosts — Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri) and Edwin Payne (George Rexstrew) — who decide to cheat Death and open a detective agency to help other ghosts in Afterlife.
Dead Boy Detectives was originally slated to stream on Max in 2021 but it was sold to Netflix later in 2023. The series was adapted from volume 25 of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman comics and was a part of The Sandman universe.
Dead Boy Detectives was developed by Steve Yockey, who wrote the first episode and served as showrunner alongside Beth Schwartz. Greg Berlanti, Jeremy Carver, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman and Gaiman served as executive producers of the series. The first episode was directed and executive produced by Lee Toland Krieger.
The show received a positive response and remained in the Netflix Top 10 English TV charts for three weeks after its release. It also received a good response from critics, with an average of 92 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 7.5 score on IMDb.
