Last March, actor Will Smith climbed onto the Oscars stage while Rock was presenting an award and slapped the comedian for cracking jokes about the cropped hair of his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. The incident sparked a controversy across the world at the time.

Since the infamous incident, the comedian has maintained his silence and only alluded to it with short quips .

Rock had signed a USD 40 million deal with Netflix in 2016 to create two comedy acts for the streamer. Tamborine, which aired in February 2018, was the first special and Chris Rock: Selective Outrage will be the final act of the two-part series.

Chris Rock: Selective Outrage will be the first-ever live event to stream on Netflix. The streaming platform has said that users will be able to rewind, pause and jump to live during the streaming. The comedy act will also be accompanied by pre- and post-show entertainment featuring celebrities like Jerry Seinfeld, Amy Schumer, Sir Paul McCartney and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, according to entertainment magazine Variety.
