Popular Korean thriller Squid Game will return with its second season on Netflix on December 26, the streamer announced on Thursday, further revealing that the third and final season of the show will drop in 2025.

Sharing a 43-second long video on social media, Netflix wrote, “The real game begins. Squid Game Season 2 is coming December 26. The Final Season coming 2025.”

The video shows a series of contestants running on a race track until they begin falling like a pack of cards. The masked guards make an appearance next and their leader, the Front Man, says, “It’s been three years. Do you want to play another game?”

Series creator, director, and executive producer Hwang Dong-hyuk also shared his excitement in a letter to fans. “I am thrilled to see the seed that was planted in creating a new Squid Game grow and bear fruit through the end of this story,” he wrote.

Season 1 of Squid Game revolved around Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), a divorced father and indebted gambler, who is invited to compete in children’s games for a massive cash prize. He joins 455 other desperate players at a secret location, all under constant surveillance by masked guards in pink jumpsuits, with the games run by the mysterious Front Man. The players soon learn that losing a game means death. Gi-hun teams up with others, including his childhood friend Cho Sang-woo (Park Hae-soo) and defector Kang Sae-byeok (Jung Ho-yeon), to survive.

The official synopsis for Season 2 reads: “Three years after winning Squid Game, Player 456 remains determined to find the people behind the game and put an end to their vicious sport. Using this fortune to fund his search, Gi-hun starts with the most obvious of places: look for the man in a sharp suit playing ddakji in the subway. But when his efforts finally yield results, the path toward taking down the organisation proves to be deadlier than he imagined: to end the game, he needs to re-enter it.”

Familiar faces returning for Season 2 include Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Gong Yoo, and Wi Ha-jun. New cast members joining Squid Game Season 2 include Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Park Sung-hoon, Jo Yu-ri, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Lee Jin-uk, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won and Won Ji-an.

Squid Game Season 1 remains the most-watched season of any series on Netflix. It earned 14 Emmy nominations and six wins, including best director for a drama series for Hwang, best actor in a drama series for Lee, and best guest actress in a drama for Lee You-mi.
