Vidya Balan dons the hat of a CBI sleuth and slowly unravels the mystery behind the sudden death of a billionaire while he was surrounded by his closest friends in the trailer of the upcoming film Neeyat, dropped by the makers on Thursday.
With glimpses of palatial mansions and lush green valleys of Scotland, the two-minute-24-second-long trailer introduces us to Ashish Kapoor (Ram Kapoor) and his group of friends. His sudden death brings all his friends on the radar of Vidya’s Mira Rao, who believes that Ashish was murdered.
The trailer is likely to remind you of Daniel Craig-starrer Knives Out as well as Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler’s Murder Mystery. Both the films went along a similar line of a billionaire losing his life and the members of the household or close friends ending up as suspects.
Written by Anu Menon, the film boasts an ensemble cast including Rahul Bose, Prajakta Koli, Shahana Goswami, Neeraj Kabi and Shashank Arora.
Neeyat also marks Vidya’s return to the big screen after a gap of four years. Her last theatrical release was Mission Mangal in 2019. The 44-year-old was last seen in Jalsa, a direct-to-digital release, alongside Shefali Shah in 2022.
Vidya has previously worked with director Anu Menon on the 2020 film Shakuntala Devi in which she essayed the role of mathematics genius Shakuntala Devi.
Neeyat is scheduled for a July 7 release in theatres followed by a Prime Video release later this year.
