Kalki 2898 AD director Nag Ashwin has broken his silence on the controversy surrounding Arshd Warsi’s criticism of the film, especially his comments about Prabhas’ role in the dystopian sci-fi saga.
Responding to an user on X, Ashwin remarked that Arshad should have “chosen his words better”. He also urged his fans to steer clear of the south vs north debate and focus on unity rather than division.
“Let’s not go backwards..no more north-south or bolly vs tolly..eyes on the bigger picture.. United Indian Film Industry..Arshad saab should have chosen his words better..but it's ok..sending buji toys 4 his kids..il work hard so tweets fdfs that prabhas was the best ever in k2,” Ashwin wrote on X.
Responding to another user, the filmmaker commented, “Too much hate in the world already bro...we can try not to add to it..I know prabhas garu will also feel the same....”
The controversy began when Arshad Warsi voiced his disappointment with Kalki 2898 AD on a podcast. “Prabhas, I am really sad, why was he... he was like a joker. Why? I want to see a Mad Max. I want to see Mel Gibson over there. Tumne usko kya bana dia yaar. Kyu karte ho aisa mujhe nahi samajh mein aata,” he had said in the podcast.
The Munnabhai M.B.B.S. actor also claimed that Amitabh Bachchan’s portrayal of Ashwatthama was the film’s only saving grace.
Arshad’s remarks triggered a backlash ensued, with various celebrities and fans condemning the actor.
