The first motion poster for Muttiah Muralitharan’s biopic 800, with Slumdog Millionaire actor Madhurr Mittal portraying the Sri Lankan cricketer, was released on the ace off-spinner’s 51st birthday on Monday.
Vijay Sethupathi was earlier slated to portray the role of the legendary cricketer, but he withdrew from the project in 2020.
After unveiling the poster on Twitter, Movie Train Motion Pictures wrote, “We are proud to bring you his story beyond the twists & turns across 22 yards. #HappyBirthdayMuralidaran🎉 Presenting 800, the official bio-pic of #MuthiahMuralidaran starring #MadhurrMittal.”
In the poster, Madhurr is seen as Murali, who is staring at the camera with the shadow of broken stumps on his face.
Sony Music South also unveiled a motion poster of the film, written and directed by MS Sripathy, in which Madhurr is seen in various looks as the highest wicket-taker in the history of Test match cricket. The motion poster also superimposes his image on the background of the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground.
Madhurr Mittal, known for playing Salim in Slumdog Millionaire, shared the motion poster on Instagram with a heartfelt note of gratitude for this opportunity. “Extremely grateful for the opportunity to portray the legend, Muthiah Muralidaran in #800. @murali_800 #GOAT 🏏 Launching the first look on his birthday, that he shares with my dearest mother, makes it even more special for me. 💙 Coming soon to cinemas in Tamil, Telugu & Hindi,” he wrote.
