Abhay Verma and Sharvari Wagh-starrer horror-comedy film Munjya registered a decent opening at the domestic box office, earning Rs 4.21 crore nett on its first day in theatres, according to the makers.
“The audience made our #Munjya's debut spectacular! Thank you for all the love #Munjya, a must-watch for families and kids, is in cinemas now! So book your tickets and watch it at your nearest theatre,” Maddock Films, the producers of the film, wrote on X.
Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, Munjya draws from Marathi folklore, which says young boys who pass away within 10 days of their mundan ceremony become ghosts called Munjya.
Abhay Verma's character in the film is possessed by a Munjya and faces the challenge of convincing others that the mischief occurring around him is not his fault. Mona Singh portrays his mother, and Sharvari plays his love interest in the movie.
Meanwhile, Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor’s Mr. & Mrs. Mahi began its second week of theatrical run with a collection of Rs 1.31 crore nett in India. With a collection of Rs 24.89 crore nett in the first week, the total earnings of the sports drama now stands at Rs 26.20 crore nett.
