Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor-starrer Mr. and Mrs. Mahi has sold over two lakh tickets across major theatre chains PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis, according to industry data-tracking website Sacnilk.
This is the highest advance ticket sales for a Hindi movie in 2024, beating Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone’s Fighter, which held the top position with a sale of 1.45 lakh tickets through advance bookings.
Directed by Sharan Sharma, Mr. and Mrs. Mahi marks the first on-screen pairing of Rajkummar and Janhvi. Produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, the sports drama movie is poised for a strong opening, bolstered by a discounted price of Rs 99 for each ticket on the opening day on the occasion of Cinema Lovers’ Day.
While the pre-sales suggest a robust opening, the discounted ticket prices may prevent a double-digit opening for Mr. & Mrs. Mahi. This trend was seen recently with Yami Gautam's Article 370, which also offered tickets for Rs 99 on opening day and amassed Rs 5.75 crore nett. Article 370 had sold 1.25 lakh tickets in advance sales.
Also starring Kumud Mishra, Zarina Wahab, Rajesh Sharma and Abhishek Banerjee, Mr. & Mrs. Mahi tells the story of former cricketer Mahendra (Rajkummar Rao) and his wife Mahima (Jahnvi Kapoor). The couple share a deep bond through their love for cricket. Seeing Mahima’s talent in the sport, Mahendra motivates her to chase her dream of becoming a cricketer and steps in as her coach.
