There were some fans guessing that the next James Bond will be black. And then there were others who thought a woman would be playing the role.

Guess what? Both sections of fans are correct, according to a report.

Lashana Lynch, a 31-year-old British actress, is all set to be the next 007 in what has been termed as a “popcorn-dropping moment” in the franchise’s 25th movie, the Mail on Sunday said, citing an insider.

But this is not a complete overhaul. Lynch’s character will only get Bond’s secret agent number following his retirement from the MI6, adds the report.

Daniel Craig will still play Bond, displaying the same machismo the secret agent is known for, the insider added.

The Mail on Sunday reported that the movie starts with Bond enjoying his retirement in Jamaica. But M — Ralph Fiennes — beckons him in an attempt to tackle a new crisis.

“There is a pivotal scene at the start of the film where M says 'Come in 007', and in walks Lashana who is black, beautiful and a woman.

“It's a popcorn-dropping moment. Bond is still Bond but he's been replaced as 007 by this stunning woman,” the insider said.

According to the insider, Bond is sexually attracted to the new 007 and tries to seduce her. However, the woman refuses to be wooed by him. She has no interest in jumping into the bed with him.

Lynch, who is from London, earlier played the role of Maria Rambeau in Captain Marvel. It is hoped that she can modernise the franchise which is often seen as sexist and outdated.

“This is a Bond for the modern era who will appeal to a younger generation while sticking true to what we all expect in a Bond film,” the source said.

“There are spectacular chase sequences and fights, and Bond is still Bond but he’s having to learn to deal with the world of #MeToo.”
