Bairi piya by Shreya Ghoshal along with Udit Narayan from Devdas (2002) is my first choice. Picturised on Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in a romantic playful mood, Shreya sang this song with grace, maturity and harmony at a very early age. She uttered the word ‘ishh’ in a way as to make the song sound sweeter. My second choice is Chaka chak from Atrangi Re (2021) picturised on the vibrant Sara Ali Khan. This wedding song is peppy, charming and a mood builder. It celebrates womanhood and you feel like dancing when listening to it. Next is Mere dholna (aami je tomar) from Bhool Bhulaiyaa. Agar tum mil jao: My favourite love song during my teen years, the combination of its touching melody, meaningful lyrics and Shreya Ghoshal’s expressive singing made Zeher a long-cherished soundtrack.
2. Piyu bole: This soulful duet that Shreya Ghoshal sang with Sonu Nigam captures the emotional depth and love and longing between the main characters played by Saif Ali Khan and Vidya Balan in Parineeta (2005). I loved how composer Shantanu Moitra made use of Tagore’s “Phooley phooley dholey dholey” in it.
3. Chikni chameli from Agneepath, for its catchy and energetic rhythm that immediately captured my attention.

My top three favourite songs by Shreya Ghoshal are Agar tum mil jao from Zeher, Deewani mastani from Bajirao Mastani and Dola re dola from Devdas. Agar tum mil jao was one of the most celebrated songs of 2005. Deewani mastani was specially made for Deepika Padukone’s character Mastani. The lyrics along with high beats make the song one of the best from the film. Dola re dola was where it all started for Shreya. Not only the song but also its choreography became very popular with Madhuri Dixit and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan dancing to the beats.

My first pick is Zoobi doobi from 3 Idiots as it is lighthearted and transports us to a fantasy world. The next is Ghar more pardesiya from Kalank, which puts one in a festive mood. The third is Jao pakhi bolo from the Bengali movie Antaheen which is perfect for enjoying on rainy days. Her melodious voice describes the little images that a raindrop creates and one can enjoy solitude, getting lost in an imaginary world while at a hazy glass window.

I would like to pick Yeh ishq hai, Main agar kahoon and Dola re dola as my top three favourites. Back in 2007, the craze of Yeh ishq hai (Jab We Met) was unmatchable. Picturised on Kareena Kapoor Khan and Shahid Kapoor, this song possesses the ability to boost anybody’s mood within seconds. Kareena's chirpy energy as Geet brought the best out of this song. Definitely a must-have song for every trip or party playlist.

Main agar kahoon from Om Shanti Om gives me goosebumps whenever I listen to it. The wonderful feeling of falling madly in love and confessing your love through a song is definitely something that Shah Rukh Khan can ace gracefully. Picturised on the fresh pair of Shah Rukh and Deepika Padukone, this song is aesthetic, comforting and dreamy. The line “Kisi zubaan mein bhi woh lafz hi nahin ki jin mein tum ho kya tumhein bataa sakoon”, expresses our inability to define our love which cannot be justified through mere, ordinary words.

Dola re dola, a brilliantly composed song powered by Saroj Khan’s choreography took the representation of classical dance to a new peak. Clad in red and white saris with gorgeous jewellery, the dance duet between Madhuri Dixit and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was delightful. Shreya Ghoshal and Kavita Krishnamurthy successfully instil their magic through this song. Sanjay Leela Bhansali excellently brought his vision to action and gave us the opportunity to experience one of the most splendid and mesmerising performances ever.

My top three Shreya Ghoshal songs are Jadu hain nasha hain (Jism), Deewani mastani (Bajirao Mastani) and Sunn raha hai (Aashiqui 2). Her songs have the power to evoke emotions and memories. She continues to be a favourite among music lovers. She is a complete and versatile singer.

Among her oceanwide contributions to Bollywood and world music, it is impossible for me to choose only three songs by her. But I must mention the playfulness of her voice in Dhoom taana in Om Shanti Om, the sorrow, passion and depth of the song Deewani mastani in Bajirao Mastani and the yearning and longing of Mohe rang do laal in Bajirao Mastani captivated my heart. When I was in school, Piyu bole from Parineeta was a huge hit and every music student tried to sing it. Mere dholna from Bhool Bhulaiyaa shows her matchless virtuosity in classical music, raga and sargam.

Pallabi Chatterjee

One song that tops my playlist is from the 2017 release Agent Vinod called Raabta. With lyrics that beat into the depths of the heart, its soft, soothing melody has the power to soothe frayed nerves.

Another will be Sunn raha hai from Aashiqui 2. It captured heartbreak and broken dreams. Angst could not have been portrayed better.

The third favourite is Jaadu hai nasha hai from Jism, a 2002 release. This song stood the test of time, even though the movie didn’t. It still tops the charts. It has oomph mixed with innocence, another rare quality of Shreya’s songs.

2. Teri ore from Singh Is Kinng: If you are longing for a romantic song, this one will make you feel the depths of love with the singer’s enchanting voice.

3. Drama queen from Hasee Toh Phasee: Paired with Vishal Dadlani, Shreya Ghoshal has proven her versatility in this party number. Deviating from her usual soulful voice, her energetic rendition makes this an absolute party hit.

There are some favourite duets also. Pal pal pal from Lage Raho Munnabhai with Sonu Nigam, Piya bole from Parineeta also with Sonu Nigam and Rim jhim ei dharate from Premer Kahini with Shaan.

The top three songs that I listen to are Bahara from I Hate Luv Storys, Ishq hua from Aaja Nachle and Ye ishq hai from Jab We Met.

Since Shreya Ghoshal is one of my favourite singers, most of her songs are close to my heart. Among them, the top three include Pherari mon from the Bengali film Antaheen, Barso re from Guru and Teri ore from Singh is Kinng.
