Mosharraf Karim, Nowrin Hasan Khan Jenny, Shahnaz Sumi and Samia Othoi star in the new Bangladeshi series Mobaroknama. A day after Abida’s wedding, chaos ensues when Suraiya, Abida’s younger sister, accuses her brother-in-law of rape. Met with disbelief and unsupportive violent behaviour from her own family, Suraiya seeks help from Mobarok Bhuiyan, a once-successful lawyer haunted by a traumatic past.

Reluctant to take on the case due to his personal demons, Mobarok eventually faces his fears and represents Suraiya. Battling his insecurities and a formidable opponent, Sabnin, Mobarok struggles in court. Once a highly successful lawyer, Mobarok had voluntarily retired to atone for his mistakes. Suddenly this sensational case shakes him up and he decides to return to court.

“Mobarok is one of my favourite characters I have ever portrayed on screen. The love, positive feedback and appreciation mean a lot to me and the whole Mobaraknama team. This series is very different from what I am normally seen in. The audience will love the way Mobarok’s story unfolds. Mobarok is not a superhero, but he is unique in his world. Mobarok is messy in his personal life but a perfectionist in his professional life. The ups and downs of the character, Mobarok Bhuiyan, his growth, his losses, his unpredictable reactions to different people in different situations — these things kept me greatly engaged as an actor,” said Mosharraf Karim.

Mobaroknama is the tale of an ordinary man taking extraordinary steps for the sake of truth and integrity. This is a very important project for me because this is exactly the kind of story that deserves to see the light of day. I sincerely hope that we can win hearts nationwide with the kind of storytelling they have been craving. I have been working on Mobaroknama’s concept for over a year now. I am very passionate about this project. I don’t want to correct anyone’s behaviour or teach society how to act with my series. I just want to shed light on how men and women are treated differently on similar issues,” said director Golam Sohrab Dodul.
