Money Heist prequel Berlin, based on the life of The Professor’s witty elder brother Andres de Fonollosa a.k.a Berlin, is set to premiere on Netflix on December 29, the streamer has announced in a teaser.

“Where others see risk, he sees excitement and adrenaline. From the world of Money Heist, BERLIN is coming to Netflix on December 29th,” Netflix wrote, sharing the teaser on Monday.

The new date announcement teaser shows Berlin looking for “something unique” before he plans a heist to steal €44 million from one of the top auction houses in Paris. He is living in the golden age of thievery for whom “enthusiasm”, “beauty” and “freshness” are the things that “make life worth living”.

The first trailer of the show, dropped earlier this year, showed Berlin in the prime of his life, risking his own heist by falling in love with the wife of the man he is about to rob. As compared to the character who is terminally ill in the original five-part Money Heist series, the prequel will show an energetic Berlin who loves surprises and romanticises the act of thievery.

Spanning five seasons, Money Heist revolves around a man going by the name of The Professor who hires eight thieves to carry out a heist at the Royal Mint of Spain. In the original series, Berlin is the Professor’s brother, whose quick wit and charm makes him a key planner of the group’s heists. Berlin, who battles a rare degenerative disease in Money Heist, eventually sacrifices his life to save his team members during a heist.

Berlin is created by Esther Martínez Lobato and Álex Pina, with the series' screenplay written by David Oliva, David Barrocal, Esther Martinez Lobato and Álex Pina. Alongside Pedro Alonso, the ensemble features Michelle Jenner in the lead role of Keila, Begoña Vargas as Cameron, Julio Peña portraying Roi, Tristán Ulloa as Damián, and Joel Sánchez playing Bruce.
