Kabuliwala, a timeless short story penned by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, has resonated through generations since its creation in 1892. Tapan Sinha immortalised it on celluloid in 1957, and now, after 66 years, Suman Ghosh is set to recreate the magic with a fresh adaptation.

Mithun steps into the shoes of the iconic character Rahmat, a Kabuliwala whose heartwarming friendship with Mini, portrayed by child artiste Anumegha Kahali, forms the crux of the narrative. The original 1957 film, with legendary Bengali actor Chhabi Biswas in the lead, gained cult status for its faithful rendition of Tagore's work.

“I share a bond with Mithunda not only as an actor and director but personally as well. Mithunda is an emotion for me,” director Suman Ghosh recently told The Telegraph Online. “I conceived the character of Rahmat with Mithunda in mind. I was very adamant about the fact that I wanted to make the film with Mithunda. But he was out of action and not doing films as he was not well,” Suman had shared.
