The first poster of Durga Puja release Shastri, which marks the on-screen reunion of actors Mithun Chakraborty and Debasree Roy after 14 years, was dropped by makers Surinder Films on Saturday.
Directed by Pathikrit Basu, Shastri is based on the short story Dolgobinda Babur Choshma, written by Debarati Mukhopadhyay. The film is a joint production between Surinder Films and Soham Chakraborty’s banner, Soham’s Entertainment.
“Presenting the official poster of #Shastri , coming this Pujo,” Surinder Films wrote on social media alongside the poster.
Mithun and Debasree, who gained fame for their chemistry in the 1982 hit Troyee, were a popular on-screen pair in the 1980s and ’90s. Their last film together was Shukno Lanka in 2010.
In addition to Mithun and Debasree, Shastri will feature an ensemble cast that includes Saswata Chatterjee, Kanchan Mullick, Kaushik Sen, Anirban Chakrabarti, Rajatava Dutta, Sauraseni Maitra and Ambarish Bhattacharya. Soham Chakraborty is also expected to play an important part in the film.
The screenplay for Shastri has been penned by Arnab Bhaumik and Aritra Bandyopadhyay, focusing on the theme of science versus astrology. Indraadip Dasgupta has composed the music for the film.
Shastri will hit theatres alongside Srijit Mukherji's Tekka, featuring Dev in the lead role, and Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy’s action chase thriller Bohurupi this Puja.
