After riding high on Jawan and Gadar 2’s success for over a month, the box office suffered a setback this week as none of the new releases — Mission Raniganj, Thank You for Coming and Dono — left an impression upon audiences, resulting in dismal opening-day collections for all of them.

The much-anticipated rescue thriller film led by superstar Akshay Kumar got off to an extremely disappointing start. The Tinu Suresh Desai-helmed film, which also features Parineeti Chopra, Kumud Mishra and Ravi Kishan, managed to scrape together a meagre Rs 2.85 crore nett on its opening day.

The earnings were significantly lower compared to Akshay's previous release OMG 2, which had minted Rs Rs 10.26 crore nett on the opening day. However, Mission Raniganj managed to beat Akshay’s other release of the year, Selfiee (Rs 2.50 crore nett), by a whisker.

Thank You for Coming reports a dismal Day 1 collection

Bhumi Pednekar’s latest release also faced a nightmarish opening day at the box office. The movie, also supported by Kusha Kapila, Shehnaaz Gill, Shibani Bedi, Dolly Singh, Karan Kundrra and Anil Kapoor, could only garner a mere Rs 1.06 crore nett on the opening day.

Dono tanks at the box office

Adding to the box office woes, Sunny Deol’s son Rajveer Deol and Poonam Dhillon’s daughter Paloma’s debut movie Dono had an even tougher time. The film, which released on Thursday, managed to muster only Rs 35 lakh nett in the first two days of its theatrical run. However, trade analysts attributed the low collections to the film’s limited release in theatres. Dono, helmed by Sooraj Barjatya’s son Avnish Barjatya, has been released in less than 250 screens across the country.

The Vaccine War underwhelms, Fukrey 3 maintains momentum

In keeping with the disastrous trend, Vivek Agnihotri’s The Vaccine War, which also tanked at the box office after its release on September 28, minted only Rs 20 lakh nett on Day 9. The total earnings of the film now stand at Rs 8.8 crore nett.

Mrighdeep Singh Lamba’s Fukrey 3, which released on the same day, has been the only shining light as it continued its decent run in cinemas, raking in Rs 2.2 crore nett on its ninth day in theatres. The total collection of the comedy caper, starring Pulkit Samrat, Varun Sharma, Pankaj Tripathi, Manjot Singh and Richa Chadha, now stands at Rs 68.32 crore nett in India.
