Mirzapur Season 3 has emerged as Prime Video’s most-watched show ever on a launch weekend in India, the streamer announced on Friday.
The crime drama, starring Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Vijay Varma and Sweta Tripathi Sharma in pivotal roles, garnered views from 98 per cent of the country’s pin codes on its July 5 premiere, according to the streamer.
“Record break karna toh apna USP hai! Mirzapur S3 is officially the most-watched show ever on Prime Video in India on the launch weekend. #MirzapurOnPrime, watch now, the streaming platform wrote on social media alongside a poster highlighting the achievement.
Vijay Varma, who plays the role of identical twins Bharat Tyagi and Shatrughan Tyagi in the series, also shared the feat on Instagram.
“#MirzapurSeason3 becomes @primevideoin ‘s most watched show ever!!
Sharing some Bumpilaat BTS#Mirzapur," the 38-year-old wrote alongside behind-the-scenes pictures with Neha Sargam and Shweta Tripathi Sharma from the sets of Mirzapur Season 3.
Produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar’s Excel Media and Entertainment, the third chapter of the fan-favourite franchise is directed by Gurmeet Singh and Anand Iyer.
The first season of Mirzapur premiered in November 2018, followed by the second season in October 2020. The series revolves around a don named Kaleen Bhaiya (Pankaj Tripathi) who rules the roost in Mirzapur. His authority is challenged by the Pandit brothers — Guddu (Ali Fazal) and Bablu (Vikrant Massey) — leading to a series of clashes.
The focus of Season 3 remains the familiar turf of Mirzapur with its gang wars and political shenanigans. But the scope is expanded to include the entire state of Uttar Pradesh, with the ganglords of Pashchim demanding more than what the leaders of Purvanchal are ready to offer.
The action-thriller also features Rasika Dugal, Isha Talwar, Anjumm Shharma, Priyanshu Painyuli, Harshita Shekhar Gaur, Rajesh Tailang, Sheeba Chadha, Meghna Malik and Manu Rishi Chadha in key roles.
Mirzapur Season 3 is currently streaming on Prime Video in India and across 240 countries and territories worldwide.
